Ouch
...I'm a real jerk. It would have been SO much better to have a nice, sweet, ACTUAL Mother's Day page where Bridget and Alphonse do something nice for Tabitha, BUT NO. I had to do drudge up this bit of unpleasantness to inflict on Layla again. Yeesh.

On a more serious note, this DOES touch on something that's been bothering me lately. The more I think about it, the less I like how quickly Layla got over having the company taken away and being kicked out of her home. Oh sure, she's been cranky about it ever since, but in those early pages she shakes it off FAST. At the time, I thought it was best to keep things light and funny and tried to downplay the angst, but I think I over did it. Looking back now, it seems really out of character for Layla to just leap into coning Ichabod so soon (*GASP* A webcomic where the early pages aren't quite right? Now I've seen EVERYTHING!)

Well, anyway, Happy Mother's Day! Tune in again Tuesday for your next regularly scheduled page!

There is a way...
that it would make sense: Ichabod's judgement that she was not sufficiently evil to run the company was correct, and if she was near the point of realizing that herself she could have found (much to her own amazement) that she didn't really care. Except, of course, that it was an insult and a serious inconvenience. And conning Ichabod would be (for her) doing something familiar and easy (and therefor comforting).

The strangest thing about this is that I know it can happen from personal experience: I was in denial about how badly matched my first girlfriend and I were. She dumped me and my reaction was "Oh, right, we really don't belong together." I was surprised by my own reaction, but not by the fact that we had broken up.
