Sweet Celestia on high I am SOOOOO glad I don't have to look at this page anymore. As you no doubt have noticed, it is VERY late. Well, that's because I completely botched my first attempt at drawing the final panel and had to start over from scratch at around 1:30 am. See, my original concept was to show the three close up from a low angle, all dramatic like. It really would have looked a lot better than the version seen here... if only I could draw tricky perspectives like that worth a crap. Instead, the picture turned out awful and just got worse the more I tried to fix it. And then the looooong night began. (and just for added annoyance, I didn't realize the altered layout would leave so much empty space until it was too late to put any more characters in it. Hence awkward speech bubbles from characters who have no reason to be out of frame)

For all that griping, though, I DO like the contrast between Avatar and Layla in their reactions to Tabitha. Avatar's trying her best to be civil, but just can't hide how weirded out Tabitha makes her. Conversely, Layla's TRYING to keep up her snarky, unfriendly act... but come on, EVERYONE can see she's happy to have a gal pal to chat with. This is the kind of thing that makes stupidly long nights fun.

Oh, and just in case you didn't already notice while waiting for the main update, new voting incentive!

About time! The space monster are getting restless at the backstage...

I'm just surprised mommy didn't have a word for her little boy.

In other news, apparently only air will get sucked out when the door opens...DO NOT QUESTION THE MIND BEHIND FOT!

That means you nitpickers in the crowd!

<Nitpicker> But!

*Nitpicker is shot by mad scientist*

Anyone else?

I would have thought Layla to do something different with her hair. I mean pigtails are great but not when you're flying in low gravity and have a glass bubble you need to breath with.

And if I can ask, how long have Layla and Trigger been traveling on the ship (There time not ours)? Layla has.....matured quite a bit since the first few pages. Or it could just be the art maturing but the question still stands.

Stick: Don't forget, Alphonse is technically right next to Tabitha (even if his brain is being beamed across space right now) so she can whisper positive asides whenever she wants. SHe only spoke to Alphonse through the screen when she wanted to include other people in the conversation.

Also, there's not actually a vacuum in the rest of the ship, there air's just not breathable without the life support to clean it up (That's why Layla's suit is different from Ichabod's, it doesn't have to deal with stuff like air pressure and the lack thereof)

Kung Fu:The problem with Layla's hair is, well, there's a LOT of it. No matter what she does with it, there's still end up being a lot bunched up in the helmet, so she decided it wasn't worth bothering with. Besides, only LAYLA decides how Layla wears her hair, not some two-bit spacesuit!

Also, the art has evolved quite a bit over the years, which has an effect. Even in the early days, Layla was rather... developed, but she was also being drawn as a stick figure with a giant balloon head, so it didn't come across as strongly. In universe, though, you'll notice Layla usually wears bulky or loose-fitting clothing that obscure her figure. Toss her into a skintight catsuit, and suddenly a lot of things are more noticeable.

I never realized that Layla was so...tall! Yeah, that's it! Tall...

I feel bad for being so late to see this update, although I really shouldn't...
It was late going up, and I haven't had much chance to check since.

Avatar is still trying to be friendly I see. She's definitely not used to having fans.
Layla looks pretty happy, and I see at least one thing the oversized gloves have - a torch! To be a light in dark places, even when all other lights go out.

Incentive:
Usually when a child asks me for something I agree unless agreeing would turn out to be even worse for me.

Still asking how long they've been on the ship.

SS: It probably doesn't help that Tabitha is... Well, let's face it: she might be nice and everything, but she's a little over-exuberant about EVERYTHING (I guess that'll happen if you only hang out around Mad Scientists)

KFM: Like most time-related stuff, I'm trying to keep their time in Ichabod's company kinda vague, just in case I need to go back and insert some flashbacks or something. Still, it's hasn't been THAT long. Remember, the whole Mad Science Convention was just a day, and the stuff with the Hector kids was only two days immediately following. All together, they've probably only been on the ship a few months. (Man, Webcomic Time is hitting this story HARD)

@Blitzkrieg1701
Concerning webcomic time, this is nothing compared to The Mansion of E. A daily comic that started in 2003 and they are nearing the end of the second day in comic time I believe.
The current day in that comic has been rather eventful.

reynard61, April 18th, 2013, 10:16 pm

@ Senros Senric: That sounds like the situation in the webcomic "Inhuman". The comic is four or five years old, but the in-universe events have only progressed something like three days.
