Sooooo... normally this would be the place where I debate weather or not I should have done the whole "text in white space with illustrations on the side" thing instead of just Ichabod sitting in a chair the whole time. But you know what? No. I absolutely believe that whatever you imagined when you read the word "Glassopotamus" is funnier than whatever I could have come up with to doodle.

Anyway, it's nice to have a chance to see Sophia again. She's really hard to work into the main comic. It's also nice to have more random glimpses into Ichabod's wacky past, especially when I don't have to explain what the heck it means (though more that one of those actually IS an early reference to something in a future story, so have fun wildly speculating!)

And finally, a new Voting Incentive which, I gotta confess, I'd kinda forgotten I had to do (I got REALLY used to having a big pile of those Incentives done to cover Otakon)

Everyone knew Sophia would cite the "Not Our Problem" clause, Ichabod is just wishing that it was also not his problem.
(Stilez, however, likes Ichabod far too much for that wish to come true :P)

I kind of like the implication in this page that there are multiple empires that Ichabod could control if he really wanted to :P

Another thing I like is that despite the "Not Our Problem" clause, and all the trouble Ichabod causes her, Sophia is still trying to give suggestions that might help.
Whatever she might say, she does care.

The saga of impractical clothing continues.

If nothing else, Sophia knows that Ichabod gets the job done, so she needs to at least ATTEMPT to help him out (after all, it's not as if he can go to any jobs while Stilez & Tax are hanging around, right?)

There are other nitpickers.
The question becomes - would Sophia try to help all of them? Or just the ones deemed valuable?

Zaealix (Guest), August 11th, 2015, 12:10 pm

I feel like typical Nitpickers don't often get into major trouble like this all that often. Like...I'd say for the standard Nitpicker it might be... anywhere from once to thrice in a single career, while Bod-bod here pulls once to three times a month.

Yeah, Ichabod definitely needs to be bailed out more often than most of his coworkers.

comicfan92, August 11th, 2015, 5:56 pm

Pretty easy to imagine that, if only because he puts himself in more troublesome than most of them, unwittingly or not.

Also, will these incentives be put in an archive anywhere?

That last panel contains my favorite Ichabod expression ever.

Comicfan: click on the "Other Goodies" link up top and you'll find the Incentive Gallery. I'm a bit suck at updating the link list, but eventually all the incentives are gathered up there.

To be fair, Ichabod doesn't seem to be responsible for the vast majority of disasters that surround him, he just happens to be there, like a bad luck charm. Even the current disaster, which he sort of technically did cause, did not result in any predictable way from anything he did, since in no part of anything he said did he actually invite Stilez onto his ship. I suppose he did violate the Nitpicker "Stilez Not our Problem" policy by saving that criminal gunrunner guy's life, but he's not the kind of guy who's going to just let someone get killed if he can prevent it, so I guess no good deed goes unpunished? (Still doesn't explain why Stilez "coincidentally" seems to follow him around everywhere he goes...hmmm....)

Blitzkrieg1701, August 13th, 2015, 8:59 pm

Oh yeah, Ichabod will be the first to tell you that most of the times he needs to be rescued aren't his fault. And half the time, it's actually true!

Two points on the Stilez Policy, though: First, this policy isn't so much "Ignore the suffering of others so that WE don't get hurt" as it is "Look, there's no way to plan around Stilez, so we can't be held liable if she screws up the plan we gave you." A Nitpicker helping out in the heat of the moment (like Ichabod talking her down) isn't forbidden, but specifically hiring a Nitpicker to deal with her isn't allowed. Can't take a job to fix something you officially stated can't be fixed, right?

...which brings us to Second: the Nitpicker's Guild can't send help in a Stilez-related manner because it'd be unfair to everyone else. If they even attempt to intervene for one of their own (even if it wouldn't actually help) they'd have to start intervening for everybody, which would require the Guild to be held liable for Stilez-related damage, which would be bad.

And honestly, Sophia knows Ichabod can handle Stilez better than even he wants to admit. For anyone else, she'd at least try to arrange an escape route, or some other kind of indirect help, but in this case she knows it's not that necessary.
