In retrospect, I'm not sure Stilez actually had any idea where she was going all this time.

This is one of those pages that aggravates me, or more accurately, WOULD aggravate me if I were experiencing it as a reader of this comic. Now, as the WRITER of this thing, I can just look at this page as a single step in a sequence of pages, and know in advance how an anticlimactic moment like that fits in with the greater sequence of events. But as a reader, just taking this in one page at a time? man, I would be SO aggravated right now! Teasing us with a chance to finally see more Stilez/Ichabod interaction, and it's resolved with two like & a bouncy ball? COME ON! But, like I said, it's one part of a larger sequence of events, and those events had to be set up somehow.

...and the worst part is, in a day or two, I just KNOW the clouds will part, the heavens will open, and I'll suddenly realize exactly what I could have done to make this page be more satisfying as a stand-alone comic. That's always the way.

But then I've got plenty of other irons in the fire right now. For one thing, I'm working out how to schedule that sequence of future events to sync up with the end of the month. Last year we had a nice, tidy cliffhanger before the Christmas break, and it'd be nice if I could pull that off again. And speaking of which, it's already time that I got started on those Christmas pages (holy crap, is it really that late?). AND I've still got a bit of a pile-up over at Patreon to straighten out, what with Conventional Wisdom gumming up the works last week. Speaking of which, I finally did get a new Far Out There Patreon comic done yesterday, and will try to do an extra one to make up for last week. Also, I think we're about due for another of those Far Out There Madlibs, don't you?

And last but not least: New Voting Incentive!

@ Blitz: I'm not sure what you're on about in your Author Comment about the page. This type of anticlimactic result of a situation he was forced into suits Ichabod PERFECTLY. It's what happens with Ichabod's character (from what we've seen in the comic itself). Either he's perfectly comfortable when someone else wonder's what type of trouble he's in, he's in danger when everyone else is completely bored out of their mind, OR he's turning the situation into an anticlimactic result, because reasons.

Honestly, the only reason we know Ichabod can do things is because of comments about things that has happened in his past, and even then I'm pretty sure that he was just "the right person at the right time" to turn a major conflict into peace. Possibly, often, by getting Stillez to end her rampage.

Oh yeah, I'm not trying to suggest that Ichabod's behaving out of character here. Just that, you know, we haven't seen Stilez do any crazy, destructive stuff lately & and I know if it were ME in the reader's seat, I'd be a little tired of seeing this legendarily destructive figure keep getting neutralized so easily.

But hey, nice to see it's not bothering other people as much as it would me! Thanks!

It is now my belief that Ichabod always carries multiple bouncy balls in his bigger-on-the-inside pockets, just in case he has to face Stilez.
Partly because he seems the kind of guy to research all of his enemy's weaknesses.

That said, seeing Stilez destruction would be nice, but she's on the same ship as both Tax and Ichabod, both people she wants to actually like her and not be dead. Tax is easily amused by lots of things, not just wanton destruction, and I think, at least on some level, Stilez knows that damaging the ship Ichabod uses would make him upset. (any other ships are probably still fair game)

Trigger is looking stylish.

The Legendary Destructive Character's not in a destructive situation. Stillez is supposed to, joyfully, take on armies, cults, and people who annoy her (or harm Tax, may god have mercy on their souls, as their bodies are doomed). The only person who's even gotten close to annoying her on the ship is Layla, and that was the bath situation where she ended up having a paralytic panic attack.

Besides, they're in, what is essentially, a space faring death-trap. You might as well complain about the fact that Trigger hasn't tried to make "improvements" while bored, and instinctively reverted back to his destructive training, which ended up causing the thing to turn the ship into a complete wreck (possibly close to when they try to land the ship, can't kill off the character's after all).

@Darius Drake
Pretty sure Triggger has messed with the ship's systems when he shouldn't have on multiple occaisons.
But, he's also been made to fix things. And is (after the blue thingy incident, at least) quite aware that that they are in a space faring death-trap.

Also, concerning Stilez being afraid of water:
Reading through it, it does seem like she's not exactly afraid of water. What she's afraid of, is stuff relating to bathing. As evidence, on page 765, Tax's exact words are "when she DOES get bath water on her, she doesn't like it."
Also, she's alive so she probably drinks water at least occaisonally.

Of course, given what little we know of her origins (which is almost nothing) that could easily imply some really bad backstory of abuse. Which, while it could explain nearly all of her behaviour, is a bit too dark for my tastes.

You know what? I'm kind of surprised we HAVEN'T had someone just up and stumble onto something Trigger had been fiddling with & forgot about. Maybe I should stick that in somewhere :D
