Layla is officially the only person in the universe who didn't immediately assume Tabitha was causing this right from the start.

Also, she is SEVERELY overestimating the number of times they've been threatened by someone or something Ichabod is acquainted with, Stilez notwithstanding.

Oh, and speaking of Stilez and Tabitha, NEW VOTING INCENTIVE!!! Ahhh, it's nice to be ALMOST getting back on schedule.

Scans indicate that the cockpit contains one average size humanoid, two small zombies, and several trunks of large amazon-catgirl-sized costumes.

(It seems Tabitha invented a new type of spaceship drive technology which blatantly violates all laws of physics and science solely so she could warp across the entire galaxy in no time just for the amazon-catgirl-cosplay opportunity. As well she should!) ;)

Now that I think on it...Crazy space-anomoly glow thing reminds me of the glowy stuff that was going to make a black-hole in the mad-science convention...
EDIT: Probably an intentional call-back, even if it was her dad using all the other mad-scientist stuff there kinda? I can see the daughter using some of the same machines for her own projects so her flying out here with the black-hole engine isn't unreasonable.

I WISH I was clever enough to have made the color significant, but honestly it was more of a "because it looked cool" decision. I knew the ship be bathed in red, with all the warning lights, so I just made the distortion effect blue so there'd be that cool red/blue contrast. (though now that you've mentioned it, I bet I can find a way to work that in someplace)

Mad Science 101
It all makes perfect sense: Dr. Caligari's original device worked by ingesting all available ambient energy through a web of interphasic impulse conduits into a kinetic vacuum void, producing an exponentially increasing subharmonic flux in the vacuum.

Tabitha realized that by merely inverting the polarity of the flux in the matrix of interphasic energy conduits, she could reverse the energy flow from, rather than into, the kinetic vacuum of the void, essentially generating an exponentially increasing, and therefore effectively unlimited, amount of energy from the perimeter of the duodynetic impulse bubble - thus powering the engines of a ship capable of generating near instantaneous transpatial distortions of virtually any magnitude!

Simple! (Bwah ha ha ha!) :D

You can't be too careful...
Y'know, messing around with that sort of interphasic energy is just the sort of thing that gets you accidentally shifted into alternate universes. I checked: Tabitha is right-handed, so be on the lookout for this Tabitha just in case she starts using her left hand for stuff - a sure sign of an alternate-universe duplicate!

Ed8#1:Ah but do to conservation of energy that energy has to come from SOMEWHERE like another dimension. It may have also come from someWHEN for all we know.

#2 Don't worry. Alternate universes aren't due for one or two hundred comics. It'll probably climax at the thousandth comic with an epic scene punctuated by some sort of ridiculousness to take the edge off. There'd be a big 1000 in the background.

Ed8, March 5th, 2016, 5:19 pm

@power comic: Bah! Mad Science laughs at your pathetic "Law of Conservation of Energy"! Bwah Ha Ha Ha! Mad Science will not be constrained by your foolish little "Immutable, Inviolable Laws of Nature"! These irrelevant "Laws" are only for lesser mundane science, ignorant boors who are bothered by such trivialities as "facts" or "evidence" or even "reality" - to the true Mad Scientist they are barely even suggestions, to be ignored whenever it is needed, or convenient, or saves money, or if it produces a more colorful explosion! :D

Dr. Caligari's original device already violated that trivial little "Law of Conservation of Energy" - just in a less useful way - by destroying energy - converting it into nothingness - which is why Tabitha's device is able to pull energy from Nothingness. Since there's always an unlimited amount of Nothing available for use, unlimited energy can be created! Voila! Mad Logic wins again! Why Tabitha herself admitted (page 561) to violating no less than 47 different Laws of Physics just to project an adorable Alphonse Hologram across the Galaxy!

Not so much "laws" as "helpful suggestions, safely ignored."

Darius Drake (Guest), March 6th, 2016, 2:05 am

She's a Mad Scientist. When she needs to fly around somewhere, OF COURSE she uses a massive engine with a small cockpit attached. Naturally, it's one that distorts the space-time continuum to make the trip quite fast, so that she doesn't have to spend enough time in the cockpit to become uncomfortable. I mean, who would do something like that?

Number 6 (Guest), March 6th, 2016, 11:58 pm

Tabitha is very very hurt and upset that you are all calling her a "Mad Scientist" :(

She is not one of those monsters! It makes her quite mad...ummmmmm, I mean angry when she gets called that.

Darius Drake (Guest), March 7th, 2016, 8:50 pm

@ Number 6: You seem to forget. Her thing wasn't getting annoyed by being called a Mad Scientist. It was that the destructive Mad Scientists gave "the rest of them" a bad name.

Number 6 (Guest), March 7th, 2016, 11:19 pm

@ Darius Drake: See Tabitha's ranting on page 194 - she specifically blames "Mad Science" for all the bad things, and contrasts it with "REAL scientists" (her emphasis) which presumably from context she numbers herself among. She's made that same distinction elsewhere as well between "Real" and "mad" science, but I think that was one of the best examples. The fact that her ignoring laws of physics, or creating zombies of any sort, or that she seems to understand madscience just fine would likely, in the eyes of the general public, place her firmly into the "mad" category is something she almost certainly would not want to admit nor have pointed out to her.

Blitzkrieg1701, March 8th, 2016, 7:52 am

As far as Tabitha's concerned:

"Mad Scientist" = what her Dad is like now

"Cool Scientist" = what her Dad was like when she was younger
