Well THIS is embarrassingly late, and only half finished. Just in case you missed the note I added to the previous page, I seem to have caught the crud at Hoshicon, cos I've felt like SWEATY GARBAGE every since I got back. Hence, a day late, half-finished comic. Hopefully I'll have the colored version up by tomorrow morning. And also the new Voting Incentive (which, as an additional embarrassment, I actually DID get drawn on time, but couldn't get around to coloring) With all these delays, I'm tempted to just say that the other page for this week will go up on Saturday instead of Friday. I do kinda need the extra time to get to work on all these Conventional Wisdom comics, after all. I dunno, we'll see.

Oh, and just to show how out of it I've been, the original idea for this page was for it to be a continuation of Stilez galloping along from the last page, only stopping when she picked up Vengeance's creepy vibes... and it took me a lot longer than it should have to remember that Stilez has already MET Vengeance and had not problem with him. So, last minute, ground up rewrite to be a Tax/Avatar page instead. Fun times.

EDIT: Okay! New Voting Incentive is finally up!

A Random Vengeance Appears!
Vengeance is so Mysterious even the author can't remember scenes he has previously been in!

Also, how much does Vengeance charge for babysitting? If he can scare that sort of responsible behavior out of Tax, who is used to being surrounded by scenes of horrifyingly disturbing destruction and carnage, he seems like he's qualified. (Disclaimer - kids may be scarred for life.)

In fact, can Jenna hire him to babysit Megaweapon for a while?

Seros Senric (Guest), July 19th, 2016, 10:14 pm

OK, I am adding on to my Theory of Tax that Vengeance knows (or can accurately guess) what she is.
Because Vengeance.

...Also, I may have made something relating to Far Out There.
I'll likely show it soon.

Darius Drake (Guest), July 20th, 2016, 3:23 am

@ Comic: There is only one explanation that I'll accept for this page! That Tax and Vengeance know each other, and Tax wants to stay away from him. As in, it's possible that the reason why Vengeance is travelling around is related to Tax, but Vengeance doesn't know for certain (and doesn't believe) that it is Stilez's Tax... if he even knows who Stilez is. In the linked page of them meeting all he calls her is "Cat Ma'am", so it's still possible.

As for Tax not wanting to do "bad things" around him, there's a few possible explanations for that. The first is that he used to be her baby sitter. That he's a source of authority in the life she left, and many other's, so many that I'm going to be lazy and stop here instead of stating them all.

Seros Senric (Guest), July 20th, 2016, 3:49 am

@Darius Drake
I like this idea.

Tax might be wary of Vengeance because she knows that he's the only one capable of stopping her.
This makes sense, especially when you take into account .... wait a second, that was on Patreon and thus a possible spoiler...

...Alternatively, they're related (siblings, uncle/niece, etc.) and she doesn't want to go home yet.

Darius Drake (Guest), July 20th, 2016, 7:43 am

@ Seros Senric: You do realise that your response gave me the immediate reaction of "Tax is Princess Rheiko! ...wait, that doesn't work. Unless..."

...Okay, my "unless" is "Brain Transplant so they could scrap her body and hide her better", and thus can work in the confines of this story, but still.

This, meanwhile, to fit with my previous theory, would mean that Vengeance is the one who had her switch bodies, and is probably the one with her original body, and is hoping to find Tax so to put her back in her original body.

The only possible problem with this is the question "How long has Tax been with Stilez?" Because if she's been around for longer than a year, it no longer fits the timeline properly.

*sits back and watches the comments*

Ahhh, it's so much fun to see them speculating...

Dr. Delia Jarre (Guest), July 20th, 2016, 12:32 pm

No, no, no. Tax can't be Princess Rheiko! The timeline is all wrong, it's chronologically impossible! Who's going to believe something that crazy anyway?

Mooney Paceman (Guest), July 20th, 2016, 12:34 pm

@Dr. Jarre: Aha! That just proves conclusively that some sort of Time Weapon was used on them! I knew it!

Seros Senric (Guest), July 20th, 2016, 3:50 pm

This Princess Rheiko discussion is making me think that we're overdue for having a list of every female character in Far Out There with reasons for why that character absolutely must be Princess Rheiko.

Actually, non-female characters too.
Take Vengeance for example. Mysterious. Nobody knows his past. Artificial appearance. He's obviously Princess Rheiko la Arwall chu Jehtkyo in disguise!

Incentive:
I love her expression.
We need more Sophia dress-up.

Ed8, July 20th, 2016, 5:05 pm

Dr. Jarre is obviously really the real Princess Rheiko. The only possible explanation for her fanatical insistence on the Avatar=Rheiko theory is that it is obviously misdirection attempting to throw suspicion off of her own true identity!! Possibly in case assassins from the Jehtkyo Revolutionary Front are still after her. (She tries to throw suspicion onto Avatar of all people, because she knows the assassins can't actually hurt Avatar, so no innocent people will be harmed.)

More importantly: What is the correct pronunciation of "Rheiko"? I'm sure I've been pronouncing it wrong in my head this whole time.

Seros Senric (Guest), July 20th, 2016, 6:06 pm

@Ed8
I've always pronounced it "Ree-Ko" but I could be wrong. ("Ree-i-ko" seems more likely)
There are people in the world with the name "Rheiko" but I don't know any of them personally.

But for the real Princess Rheiko, it's obviously Pattie! (Layla's mum)
Due to timey-whimy-ball shenanigans related to Mooney's attempts to obtain a temporal weapon she was sent back in time during the revolution.
She was reluctantly adopted by a family of wealthy soda manufacturers (explaining why she was significantly younger than the others, and why they all hated her). Eventually she met Eric (Layla's dad), fell in love, and teamed up to be incredibly successful. And, until Eric died, she considered her new life with him to be far better than what she once had as a true princess.
It's also possible that, given her knowledge of the future revolution and her own disappearance, she kickstarted the "What happened to the missing Princess Rheiko?" media phenomenon, gaining a lot of extra cash and explaining why it became big in the first place.

Blitzkrieg1701, July 20th, 2016, 7:20 pm

Oh crap! I forgot, I was going to put pronunciation keys for the more "futuristic" names in the new character profiles!

I've been pronouncing "Rheiko" pretty much the way you would pronounce the Japanese name "Reiko", only with a breathier "R" (hence the "h")

There's always the possibility that I could be wrong about my own creation, though. It's happened before. (I was saying Dr. Jarre's name wrong for a loooong time. She's partially named after French musician Jean Michel Jarre, and being French, I just assumed his last name was pronounced "jar-AY" ...but NOPE! Turns out the e's actually silent, and the name is just "jar")

Ed8, July 20th, 2016, 7:29 pm

Gold Star for me then, it seems I've been pronouncing both the Princess and the good Doctor's names correctly after all! I just assumed that it went by the traditional Jehtkyothan (or is it Jehtkyothian?) pronunciation of the name, but you never can tell with kids these days, they all want to be different. No sense of tradition!

I'm starting to suspect that Princess Rheiko may have been that sweaty-groundhog guy from the first few pages who seemed like he was going to be a character but then we never saw him again. I don't think he ever even got a name. Massive body-mods of course, so nobody would recognize her, and, naturally, the Princess would want to stay in the background and nameless like that so as to not arouse suspicion.

Seros Senric (Guest), July 20th, 2016, 7:42 pm

So, Rheiko would be pronounced something like "rwhAY-ko"?

We've seen the sweaty guy at least once since then, in a Christmas page.

Also, I've realised it's completely obvious. That Princess Rheiko is Miffy!
It explains everything about the commercial powerhouse that developed around her!

Ed8, July 20th, 2016, 8:26 pm

I could be wrong, but I think the i is pronounced separately as a long-e, so something like rwhAY-ee-ko.

How brilliant of the Princess to think of hiding as a mascot in an entirely different strip! Her enemies will never find her there! It was a bit risky of Miffy to show up for the Christmas crossover special, though, but fortunately Dr. Jarre was at the other party - as much time as she has spent studying Rheiko-ology she might have caught on.

Seros Senric (Guest), July 21st, 2016, 4:10 am

The comments on this page have gone from Vengeance, to Tax, to Princess Rheiko, to wild accusations...
And it was fun.

Also, I mentioned that I'd made something related to Far Out There.
Something related to that can now be found on the forums.
