Hey, you wanna play a fun game? Go look through some of the older Christmas comics and see just how many times this "new" character has already appeared in the background without explanation!

Speaking of whom, I'm still working out exactly how much exposition I can wedge into the next few page's dialog, so I'm honestly not sure exactly how much backstory is going to be revealed in the near future. But there IS one thing that I wanna say, because I don't think it came across as clearly as I intended: Mariska here is NOT Ichabod's elusive girlfriend (hence the Cap'n making that "SECOND least" remark) But as for what their relationship IS... well, you'll just have to keep speculating until Friday, kiddies!

...though here's a new Voting Incentive that should give you something else to chew on.

@ Who Mariska is: She's one of Ichabod's Coworkers, who either introduced him to the job, or whom he introduced to the job. :D

@ Incentive: ...BUGGER, "friend" from time spent traveling space with the Bible Preachers was my SECOND guess.

Where's (Waldo) Mariska?
Found her 3 times! Do I win the game?

Definitely a fellow nitpicker. Could be a childhood friend, or possibly sibling. She acts like a sibling. Maybe Nitpicking runs in families?

Tabitha's spidey sense flares up: "Did we just get another cute female cast member that I can dress up in semi-fanservicey costumes for vote incentives?! Yay!"

Seros Senric (Guest), August 23rd, 2016, 4:29 pm

What is far more important to consider is:
What is the "food" that Mariska seems to have an infinite supply of?
Ichabod has apples, Sophia has candy, Claire has cigarettes...
You have to have one to be a nitpicker!

Judging from the incentive, I'm thinking their relationship might possibly be somewhat similar to the relationship between Layla and Trigger - not actually siblings, but close enough.

Either that or Avatar's brother's granddaughter, and she and Ichabod spent a decent amount of time together as children.
Captain Crosby can be her uncle. One of the people involved in Tax's creation was her cousin. Her cousin's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend's aunt is related to Tabitha. Said aunt has a nephew that worked for Layla, who had a step-brother that is a guard for Frank. That person's grandmother worked for the Interplanetary Santa Claus Corporation, and has a son that helped breed new flavours of Xal-Gox.

@Seros Senric: She's Miffy's great, great, great, great, great...(x9582)...great, great granddaughter!! (Of course Miffy will eventually have kids, they're very marketable!)

Also, cigarettes are a food?

Cigarettes, part of this nutritious breakfast, kids!!
(This message brought to you by the Interplanetary Tobacco Council)

Actually, I suppose there's no reason why cigarettes in the future wouldn't have been bioengineered to be healthy and nutritious.

Upon looking at Ed8's three discoveries, I have to ask. Who is the child-looking person with the orange hair and brown hat? The name of the blond, green eyed childish person is something that demands my query, too. They're purposefully pushed to the background in all three of those pictures, but are also near Marika each time. And, yes, I do realize that they're nitpickers too, it's just that they're the dark-skinned Nitpicker with the blue hat-like-thing is missing from the third time Ed8 found Mariska.

Blitzkrieg1701, August 23rd, 2016, 11:24 pm

Oh, they're all characters just waiting for their proper introductions to finally roll round (in fact, one of those mystery characters has appeared elsewhere if you know where to look)

Darius Drake (Guest), August 23rd, 2016, 11:54 pm

@ Blitz: Is it the Nitpicker who was tied to a stake in the middle of a bonfire surrounded by a mob with Torches and Pitchforks planning to burn them at the stake? You know, the one we didn't get to see clearly on page 48?

Blitzkrieg1701, August 24th, 2016, 12:06 am

No... but now that you've mentioned it, that WOULD be a great callback at some point.
