Well, THIS is embarrassing. I spent all of last week doing a whole pile of extra Conventional Wisdom comics for Patreon, and figured that when I finished the last of them on Sunday, it'd mean I'd be able to get today's comic done ahead of schedule. After all, no more distractions, right? ...and then I spent most of last night regretting something I ate. Turns out you can't get a whole lot of work done while sitting in the bathroom in various compromising positions. So, yeah, another late page, AND I wasn't able to get a new Voting Incentive finished first either. I'll have something up by this evening, though, so if there's not already a new link added below this, check again in a few hours.

EDIT: THERE!

Nitpick: "...a song that would be suck in everyone's head for years." Then again, maybe that wasn't a mistake after all. ;)

Bridget likes that book because it's written from the point of view of the heroic chainsaw-wielding zombie. (Unlike all those other stupid books that portray zombies as the BAD guys, which is just obviously wrong.)

As if Layla ever needs a schedule!

Incentive: Does Blip come with interchangable accessories like Mr. Potatohead, or are those sold separately?

Also: The Cormistapurp story is apparently a Noel Karwonski book. How's that for an obscure reference?

Layla's the happiest she's been for a long time.
(Now, just waiting for Ichabod's comments on her sleeping with two boys :P)

Hover text:
Context is important.
And I have many examples in my life that are somewhat similar. Only without the "drawing" part.

Incentive:
Avatar: Where'd Blip go?
Stilez (with feathers sticking out of her mouth): Huh?

Ed8: Funny thing, the idea of a popular children's story about a little blobby thing named Cormistapurp was one of the earliest bits of Future Pop Culture I ever came up with for Far Out There. I just very rarely find places where using it fits.

SS: "Awww man, Blip got eaten AGAIN?"

Poor little Cormistapurp, such a lofty beginning as an idea, but relegated to only a couple tiny appearances as background text, while Gright hogs all the best vote incentives and in-strip references. At least Jenna loves Cormistapurp. (Or maybe that's the problem? It's part of the universe's conspiracy against Jenna?)

Seros Senric (Guest), September 14th, 2016, 5:27 pm

@Ed8
It seems that Cormistapurp is actually pretty well known in-universe ... However, the universe conspiracy against Jenna is likely aware that we exist, and so the lack of mention of one of Jenna's favourite children's book characters in the comic (despite being known by the author for such a long time) is in fact a part of the anti-Jenna conspiracy. And has been since before Blitz even knew of Jenna, or the conspiracy against her.

A strangely familiar story....
We know Jenna said the Cormistapurp story made her cry (although that's probably not all that hard to do) so we can figure it probably follows the standard fairy tale pattern of having a sad beginning and a happy ending, so something like this: Once upon a time there was a little blobby named Cormistapurp. Cormistapurp had a sibling who ignored her and another one that was a little monster and constantly tortured her horribly and oddly nothing ever seemed to turn out in poor little Cormistapurp's favor, almost like the whole universe was out to get her. But she was happy and cheerful anyway and really really super nice to everyone, even her monster bratty terror sibling who totally didn't deserve it. Then she went on some sort of adventures, and a bunch of stuff happened, some of which involved singing and dancing gnomes, and her life turned around and went great for her and she was really happy! Thus proving that if you just suffer through a bunch of horrible bad stuff but remain cheerful and nice to everybody everything will eventually turn out great because the world is absolutely a completely fair place. The End.

...that is honestly not unlike my actual vague idea of the Cormistapurp story... and I genuinely didn't notice the significance of Jenna liking that story until right now. (See, this is why I pay you guys the big bucks)

Ed8, September 19th, 2016, 8:08 pm

@Blitz: (not knowing why Jenna likes the Cormistapurp story so much) Wow, your characters really do go off and make decisions on their own without consulting you, don't they? I might expect that sort of thing from Layla, because nobody tells her what to think, but apparently even dear sweet little Jenna is keeping secrets from you now!
