Why do the pages I have to draw while sleep deprived always have to show the characters sleeping comfortably?

Maybe I should go away more often. Apparently these are the only circumstances under which I can actually get comics up at midnight (even if, like on Tuesday, they were TOTALLY DONE DAYS IN ADVANCE!) But yeah, I'm down in Atlanta as you read this, so if you see me around AWA, say Hi! And even if you don;t be sure to read the Conventional Wisdom update whenever it actually gets done. Pretty please?

Anyway, on to the comic itself. The bit about whether or not Avatar sleeps came up on the forum AGES ago, but I thought now was a good time to finally mention it in the comic proper. The burning question of Avatar's morning breath remains unanswered, however.

So, I'd LIKE to think I managed to get a new Voting Incentive posted before I left Thursday, but seeing as how I'm writing this Tuesday, I have no idea. Well, there's always one way to find out!

EDIT: OMG I GOT ONE DONE!!!

EDIT EDIT: aaaand after all that, the page STILL didn't go up at midnight... because I set the time wrong. Geez, what the heck, me?

A quick Google search reveals that morning breath is due to lower saliva production while asleep allowing mouth bacteria to chow down on loose biomolecules and food particles.

Since Avatar doesn't eat and doesn't have any metabolism to speak of (which in turn makes me wonder whether she even counts as biological life,) she wouldn't get morning breath.

EDIT: Also, I have to second Trigger's thoughts on... that. (Which will probably mystify anyone reading through the archives. Fun game for future readers: guess which Voting Incentive I'm referring to!)

@ Incentive: Toenail Sweetener. Toe. Nail. SWEET. ENER.

Okay, yes, I can currently think of a Far Out There style use for it (NOT something we'd see in the comic, but a possible mention. It's for when those bosses who demand their employees kiss their feet want to be just a LITTLE bit kinder to their employees. Of course, there's also Toenail Bitterer, for the opposite effect).

@Darius - Incentive: OR it might be sweetener made from Toenails.
New!! From the Company That Brought You Delicious Soylent Green!!

@Avatar Morning Breath - since she doesn't eat, and bacteria can't attack any of her own biological tissues or teeth, she likely can't ever get bad breath, b.o. or any of those other sorts of things people get. Even if a few random bacteria occasionally land on her from the air, her habit of regularly hanging out in the vacuuum and cosmic radiation outside the hull should sterilize those.

Poor Bridget, she just can't catch a break today :(
(Technically this condition is known as Jenna-Syndrome.)

Here's something else to ponder: if Avatar can't drink, does/can she produce spit?

Ed8, September 30th, 2016, 3:37 pm

@Blitz - Even more importantly: when Avatar is sad, can she even cry? (Seriously, Avatar being sad at all is a painful concept to think of already, but not even being able to have the emotional release of crying somehow just makes that unbearably tragic. I blame the Author for this.)

:(

Consumed by the Irresistable Need to Hug Avatar now
You have been convicted on a charge of "Cruelty to Avatar" - As punishment, you are sentenced to have to draw a picture of sad Avatar trying to cry and not being able to! :o

Should be easy for the guy who drew this:

OK, now I need to go take a few hundred antidepressants or something....

Well...
...this escalated quickly.

Ed8, September 30th, 2016, 5:33 pm

@Stefan - I'm very protective of Avatar! :)
(Which is really also Blitz's fault for making her so darn adorable!)

Though I suppose bringing up the Jenna Birthday pic was technically unfair, since it was immediately declared noncanonical, and followed up by a Jenna getting Hugs pic, but it was the only other tragically sad FOT pic I could think of. The Cuteness:Sadness ratio here is pretty high.

Prescription: 1 dose of Happy-Avatar, take as needed
Let's all look at this instead!

Much better! :D

And don't forget, the Jenna picture was already fixed in the Fan Art page!

@Blitz: I don't think I had seen the fixed picture of Jenna's birthday before. It's much better! :D

(Just never ever let Megaweapon see the original pic - it will give him BAD, EVIL ideas. He will make it happen.)
