First off, I need to take a second and remind everybody once again that the version of Layla's Mom we're seeing here is NOT who was introduced back in the early pages of this comic. An awful lot about her character and her relationship with Layla has been retconed since then, which you can read< /a> about again here< /a>.

And speaking of the rocky Layla/Pattie relationship, I like the similarities between the two in this page and the last one. You just KNOW Layla got angry with Pattie for saying that, but it's hardly any worse than her stepping all over Trigger explaining which robot parts he used.

You know, I really need to a series of flashback comics with Layla, Pattie, and dear departed Eric all together, just to explore this family dynamic more thoroughly.

@ Blitz: Isn't their "family dynamic" basically just the mother and the daughter emotionally fighting over the father? And the father instinctively going whichever way is more appropriate for the moment? (That is, this is more appropriate to support Layla, because it's her present. If it was his wife's present, he would do the exact same thing for the exact same reason).

My guess is that Pattie wasn't even planning to be there for the present-opening ceremony and Eric had to drag her there. After all, it wasn't really a productive use of time and there wasn't any need for her to be there for the presents to get opened so why woud she be there? Now that they dragged her there she's kind of sitting off in the background wondering exactly what she's supposed to be doing so she decides to be helpful by offering some constructive observations, and for some strange reason nobody is happy with that either. Poor Pattie. :(
