WHOOOOOOOO boy, this page. This freaking page. Just two panels of a few characters talking. How hard can THAT be to draw, right? The answer is VERY, if you just straight up forget how to draw for a day. No, seriously, I sat down Monday to pencil this thing out, and it just wouldn't happen. It was like I somehow started drawing with my left hand instead of my right without noticing, I couldn't do ANYTHING. I erased and redrew and erased and redrew these characters so many times I was seriously afraid the page would start falling apart in places, EVERYTHING kept turning out wrong. I still have no idea what the actual problem was -maybe I just used up all my mojo getting an admittedly impressive amount of Conventional Wisdom & Patreon stuff done on Sunday- but in the end I had to just give up, go to sleep, and start fresh this morning. That seems to have done the trick, BUT it obviously left me running super behind schedule, so I'm going ahead and doing the "Half-Finished Page Now, Final Draft Later" thing again. I also don't have the new Voting Incentive finished yet, it'll go up along with the final draft of the page. Yes, I was so out of sorts yesterday that even taking a break to draw Jenna in a cute costume couldn't get me back in shape. That is REALLY bad, right there.

EDIT: Okay, there! New Voting Incentive and everything!

They just don't make Laws of Nature like they used to.
Avatar: This breaks at least 8 laws of nature.
Tabitha: Ooops, sorry! My mistake.
(Takes tablet back, scribbles on it some more, hands it back to Avatar)
Avatar: OK, now it breaks 11 laws of nature.
(Tabitha looks pleased)

Also, I guess this means that we can add "Laws of Nature" to the list of things Trigger has sabotaged. Which makes me think of Trigger as Bart Simspon having to write on the board 100x after school "I will not Sabotage the Laws of Nature".

@Incentive: Even if not a girl, this one is probably still closest to Jenna's actual personality of excessive cuteness & niceness, so it still fits. For Jenna's next dress-up candidate, I nominate: Tabitha's Mom! That way you won't have to take long to draw it. ;)

@ Incentive: I hope that plastic lollipop prop is sugar flavored. Or at least flavored a better flavor than plastic.

@ Ed8: I'm fairly certain that the character Jenna's cosplaying is female. And leave Tabitha's Mom cosplays alone. They're not for mid-cosplay sessions cosplays! They're for switching who the cosplayer is to the next character!

Error 409: Incentive-MainStrip Mismatch
@Darius: You're commenting on the wrong strip/incentive combo again! You fell for Blitz's incentive-pre-posting trick. :)

The incentive with the lollipop goes with the Friday Strip (#1222 - page 958) that hasn't been posted yet. We're not supposed to talk about it until we get the strip that it goes with - It's a Rule! The one that goes with #1221 - page 957, which I was referring to, was different. It even had a comment with the incentive about how could he have possibly run out of female characters already in such a female-heavy comic, or something like that.

YES! It's not me being chronically unable to produce comic pages in a timely fashion, it's ALL A DEVIOUS, INGENIOUS TRICK!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!

Darius Drake (Guest), September 8th, 2017, 8:21 am

...so you're saying that I was talking about the post that was supposed to go with this strip, and not the one that was up when this strip went up?

Ed8, September 9th, 2017, 9:05 pm

Brilliant Mastermind or just Disorganized? Who can say?
@Blitz: Disguising your fiendish plan as an inability to produce timely strips is just what makes it so diabolically tricky!

@Darius: Yes, I think...something like that. The incentive you saw goes with the next strip.

Forgetting How
The phenomenon you mention of forgetting how to draw is really interesting! I have a really specific idea about what's up with it, so, I'm aware I'm probably wrong in both assumptions and conclusions but here goes. Your drawing style is pretty narrow - you stick to one style, and though you're challenging yourself frequently, you aren't changing methods or goals too much, so to speak. What I'm picturing is that you're using just one small set of neurons for everything and they get tired. Maybe if you learned to paint or etch or sculpt something else - like, just casually, or as warm-up before drawing - then your drawing style could get anchored to other concepts using other neurons and it would be less fragile.

I dunno enough about brain chemistry to have anything to say about that aspect, but on a behavioral/psychological level doing the same thing for too long is DEFINITELY dangerous.
