Inspiration is a funny things. The PLAN was for today's page to be Layla and Alphonse finding someplace quiet to read some more books, which the last page obviously set up. See, I knew the Conventional Wisdom update would be approaching the home stretch right about now, so I wanted a cute little one-panel comic I could draw nice and quick... and would up spending all day failing to some up with a way to make that "simple idea" work. I mean, we've kinda seen Layla reading to Alphonse before, and I just couldn't come up with a fresh gag. Eventually, I got so frustrated that I just gave up on that plan and decided to go think about something, ANYTHING other than Far Out There for a while... and five minutes later the image of Cap'n Crosby getting bombarded by increasingly goofy requests just appeared, fully-formed. Granted, it took a lot longer to draw (and I'm seriously about to fall asleep at my desk as I write this), but I think the end result is a lot funner than The Layla & Alphonse Show ep 278425780 would have been.

And speaking of coming up with ideas where I thought I'd run out, I thought of more Incentive costumes for Jenna!

Don't say that, Cap'n! If you had taken the asteroid herding job, poor little Avatar would still be floating all alone in the interstellar void!! :o

Also: the Shooting Range makes a cameo appearance (almost) after 900+ strips:

...that thing's pretty scary looking, I'm not sure if the Shooting Range can contain it, she may have to put it in the Nursery instead.

@Incentive: Cosplay of a character who has only ever appeared in incentives. So meta. Though I suppose Jenna might have actually met Mooney at a Rich-People-Convention at some point.

I love how Trigger has already taken out the part he needs, so he can show it to the Cap'n while he asks for permission.
It's such a Trigger thing to do.

Jenna is scarily good at pulling off a Mooney cosplay...

Ed8: First the Conference Hall, now the Shooting Range, we're revisiting ALL the previously mentioned by never used locations!

SS: Not gonna lie, I cracked up for real when Trigger's bit first hit me.

more previously mentioned unused locations...
I can just see someone having to drag Tabitha away from the Mystery Room by force. "But I wanna see what's in there!"
No! Bad Tabitha! We do NOT look into the Mystery Room.

@ Ed8: The scary looking thing in a bottle held in the last panel can't go into the Nursery! That's where we're planning on trying to put Stillez to entertain her for five minutes! It'll be the only chance we get to see inside there!

@ Incentive: That look does NOT belong on her face. Seriously, she is not the person who should be able to pull that look off, it's too far from her personality. And yet... her acting skills must be incredible.

Blitzkrieg1701, September 13th, 2017, 11:22 pm

Ed8: I was thinking something VERY similar... except I'm not sure who or what would be able to keep her from actually getting inside in she actually got curious.

Ed8, September 14th, 2017, 2:53 am

@Blitz: You only have to keep her away for a short while until she spots the next thing she finds interesting. Tabitha's like a much much smarter version of Stilez, with an only slightly longer attention span, just substitute "Stilez/Tax/Avatar" instead of "shiny things" as her distraction. Of course, who could we find who would be so cruel and heartless as to throw poor Avatar to the wolves like that? *everybody turns and stares at Layla*
