Nothing about the angle or placement of these characters makes any sense in relation to what we know about the layout of Layla's room.

DANG IT DANG IT DANG IT! This was supposed to be the page I could get done quickly and on time to make up for the past few being late! But then it was 1:30 am and I needed some shut-eye to avoid making some dumb editing mistakes, and I slept through my own wakeup call! There is NO excuse for a page like this not making it online until nearly 3 in the afternoon!

...well, as I said on Tuesday, at least my computer still turned on. That STILL puts everything else in perspective.

Anyway, today we learn for certain that The Exposition can't do that trick all the Star Trek ships do where you just ask the computer where somebody is and it just tells you. Presumably because Cap'n Crosby hasn't gotten around to implanting tracking chips in all his passengers yet. Speaking of whom, I'm sure the Cap'n is going to have a GREAT time cleaning up all the modifications Tabitha and Trigger have been making once all this is over.

Also, being a Ninja Gnome sounds like it'd be really inconvenient. Fitting a black mask over those pointy hats and big, bushy beards sounds like a real struggle, logistically speaking.

Finally, one thing I DIDN'T sleep through was getting today's Voting Incentive up (more or less) on time. Continue your journey through obscure world building!

EDIT: I only just now realized my rather unlucky alarm/sleeping screwup occurred on FRIDAY THE 13TH. I now feel like I'm a part of something far bigger than myself.

Meanwhile, somewhere else, Ichabod is just about to use a hand dryer...
(at least he has eye protection, sort of)

Implanting tracking chips in passengers - The Cap'n realized that would be a bad idea based on his passenger list - Layla? NO. Vengeance - yikes! Nobody's going to volunteer to try that. Stilez?! Oh, that would go over well, given her history with scientists experimenting on her. Avatar - not even physically possible. Trigger would be fine with it, but then he broke his 30 seconds later.

Ninja Gnomes: They're actually very common. You just don't know they're there. There's probably a couple in the room with you right now.

@incentive: World-building trivia AND 80s neon art! Admit it: this would have gotten drawn even if there were no strip to incentivise! ;)
Also: Avatar scoffs at Vashti's merely petrified crystalline skin mod.

Also: nitpick - we can only see 3 letters, but I'm pretty sure Layla spelled her own name wrong on the book. :)

She stole that book from someone named "Aly"

Ed8, October 16th, 2017, 12:21 am

You can take the girl out of the Evil Criminal Syndicate, but...
That figures. All the money Ichabod gave her to spend at the space truck stop Layla had already spent on new clothes, but she still wanted the Cormistapurp book, so she conned some poor little girl out of her book! Probably told her she was with the Intergalactic Childrens' Book Inspectors and the book's font was entirely out of regulation limit or some such thing - "Normally, there would be a lengthy jail sentence, I'm willing to overlook this just this once, since you're just a kid, but I'll have to confiscate that book." Poor little Aly was just relieved that she wouldn't have to go to prison.

Blitzkrieg1701, October 16th, 2017, 12:35 am

Knowing Layla, she'd only do that to somebody who had it coming. The kid was probably a member of a nefarious elementary school protection racket. Ya know, the kind that make all the bullies pay up a portion of the lunch money they steal, and extort better grades and longer recess out of the teachers by threatening to spread rumors about what REALLY goes on in the Teacher's Lounge. "Aly" probably stole the book from the school library in the first place!

Ed8, October 16th, 2017, 4:57 pm

...which Layla recognized immediately since she had herself run that same protection racket back when she was in elementary school.

I'd always imagined Layla
s Dad homeschooled her, so that she'd ba able to accompany him on jobs more easily... but now I'm imagining her being exiled from all schools on the planet after a violent turf war with the hall monitors union.

Sounds canonical to me
