Well, THIS was an extra day well spent. It'd been a while since I'd played around with any animations in a page, and I got a sudden, overwhelming urge to do something a little out of the ordinary again, so I dove headfirst into making a big flashy lightning effect for this page. One that involved scanning and editing the various parts separately, so this page literally wouldn't have made sense if I tried to post a rough draft. No, this couldn't go public until I finally got the animation up and running ...and if this doesn't seem like the sort of "big flashy effect" that'd justify a whole extra day's worth of work, that'd 'cos it isn't. This is one night's worth of work, done AFTER throwing out an entire botched draft. I'm still figuring out the fine art of gif-making, namely keeping the end result below the file size limit without utterly botching the color, but even the basic aspects of doing things in the right order and keeping details straight on all frames still elude me on occasion. What you're seeing here is Take Two, and it's really still a rough draft of what I was intending.

Obviously, there's a conspicuous lack of a background, which in times past has been one of the biggest problems when I try to get all animated. My original plan to stick some kind of lightning effects into a stock NASA photo of some nebula to create a sort of "stormy skies but in space" thing was just too complicated to work... both in terms of compressing into a SmackJeeves-friendly file size and just getting it done at ALL. The solid purple was SUPPOSED to be the base for background mark two, with some basic stars splattered around and maybe just one or two whiffs of cloud/nebula/distortion creeping in from the side. Or maybe just a bit of gradient shading, SOMETHING other than a solid wall of color. Also, there was supposed to be several more in-between frames of animation, adding a lot more crackle between the lightning strikes. But, well, it's already a day late and I don't really trust myself not to irreparably botch things AGAIN at this point, so I'm tapping out. This is as good as it's gonna get.

...and what's especially frustrating is, for a rough draft, I don't think it's half-bad. I like the lighting on Blip and The Cap'n, and I just like the red/purple color scheme in general. It's just too bad I had to blow an entire day that COULD have been spent fleshing this thing into something truly worth the delays. Well, I guess that's what happens when you go nearly half a year without practicing something.

Anyway, if case you missed it, the TWC Voting Incentive actually did go up more or less on time yesterday. At least SOME stuff manages to get done on time around here. And speaking of noting getting stuff done on time, have another INCREDIBLY SUBTLE PATREON PLUG, because aside from a new Mad Lib going out for +$5 patrons, there's also some extra stuff in the pipeline for the lower tiers (and I don't just mean more Character Soundtracks... although yes, there is another one of those in the works too)

5/7/19 EDIT: Sorry to do this again, but to try and combat all the delays and wonky updates around here, I've made the hard decision to temporarily change the schedule around here. Thre's only going to be one Far Out There update this week, and it'll happen on Wednesday. Nothing today, nothing Friday, just one page on humpday. Ideally, this extra bit of breathing room will allow me to get back on top of the normal schedule by next week, instead of constantly scrambling to catch up again and again. Seeing as how I'll be needing to get AHEAD of schedule in a few weeks for Animazement, I really need to do whatever I can right now to avoid burn out. Hopefully pulling a reset will address both those issues. So, again, check back WEDNESDAY for the one full update of this week!

I suspect this is very impressive...if only my browser could display animations :(

You're really not missing much on this one.

I can't stand not knowing how unimpressive it is?
You know saying that just makes me want to see it even more.
