Boy, it sure is a good thing I got some work on thoday's page done earlier in the week, otherwise this comic might not have been posted until sometime in the middle of the afternoon! How crazy would it be if I STILL posted another late update even after a head start like that?

...but seriously, I wound up having to stop and redraw the second half of this page due to some rather spectacular absentmindedness. I don't know if there's a comic-specific term for this, but in film there's a technique called "shot reverse shot" where, if two characters are talking or reacting to each other and you're cutting back and forth between two shots to show them both, you make sure to frame things so the two characters are facing the opposite direction to create the illusion that they're looking at each other. So, say, if two characters are conversing over an intercom, things should be laid out so that one of them is facing to the left, while the other is facing to the right, otherwise something just feels unnatural about the scene. Well, because I wasn't paying attention, I originally drew this page with Ichabod looking back to the left in the top panel, while Cap'n Crosby ALSO stared to the left at the big screen. Even without the whole "cutting back and forth" aspect of film, the page just looked really lopsided with all the speaking characters bunched up on the right, so I had to drop everything and to the second panel over again. So the page was late, but the important thing is that you all learned an important lesson about eyeline match and the 180-degree rule!

Also, it's kind of obscured by Ichabod's head in the final draft, but look up "Kooba Cola" for a really interesting story.

Also also, new TWC Voting Incentive with another mysterious glimpse of the future!

Also finally also, while I obviously didn't have time to finish it while I was redrawing stuff, there IS another Patreon blog post pretty close to being finished, and it very possibly might end up going out sometime this weekend, so if you haven't already donated two dollars or more a month, now would be a really good time to start!

"Visual condition: way too flashy and elaborate to show on-screen" has to be my favourite background text on this page.
(I like all the background text in that bottom panel. And in my experience, the probability of an elder god (or something similar) emerging only being 37% is pretty good odds)

Concerning Kooba Cola: You should have been doing that with Can of Beard. (Which makes us wonder what you've been doing these last eight years instead! Missed opportunity. :P)

Blitzkrieg1701, July 12th, 2019, 9:18 pm

I'm glad the screen text worked out, 'cos the time I spent re-drawing stuff really ate into the time I was gonna spend coming up with ideas for silly fine print.

Also, who says I WASN'T hoping to do that with Can of Beard? All anyone can prove at this point is that I wasn't successful at it :P

Darius Drake (Guest), July 12th, 2019, 10:05 pm

@ Blitz: You seem to have been about as successful with Can of Beard as Koopa Cola was with it's Cola.

@ Incentive: What's the likelihood this guy's going to be hunting Ichabod?

@ Gummy Grubs: She's eating them wrong. You're supposed to eat the Gummy Grub itself. It's like a "Filled Gummy", in that the inside is a psuedo-liquid, and the outside has a similar texture to a Gummy. The difference is that Gummy Grubs are animals that can be safely eaten alive, and are tastiest when eaten that way. As you can see in panel 1, the Gummy Grub is even still alive as Stillez squashes it's insides into her mouth, killing it. It's just that Gummy Grubs are purposefully neutered before sale in order to prevent home breeding.

Now I just want to see a montage of all the "wrong" ways Stilez eats her food :)

Some Things are Just Wrong
What Stilez is doing is no worse than those weird kids that would take the Oreos apart and eat all the filling and leave a stack of crackers. HERETICS! It's a delicious sandwich of Sugar, Fat, and Yummy Preservatives! It is meant to be bit into and eaten properly together!

Safe Bet
Probability Of Emerging Elder God: 37%
Probability Tabitha will end up wanting to dress said Elder God in cute outfits: 99.8%

Darius Drake (Guest), July 14th, 2019, 5:18 am

@ Ed8: I, personally, don't really like Oreos. They're too thin for me. I prefer Delta Creams. Though, honestly, I can no longer do my personally preferred method of eating cream biscuits (opening them up, removing the cream, eating the biscuit and then eating the cream separately. No longer possible due to the difficulty in cleanly separating the cream from the biscuit turned from "simple" to "highly unlikely, particularly purely by hand"). I suspect that makes me a heretic in your eyes.

Blitzkrieg1701, July 14th, 2019, 8:00 am

I'm imagining Stilez taking a slice of pizza and, somehow, slurping the layer of cheese out from BETWEEN the bread and the toppings.

Ed8, July 14th, 2019, 12:19 pm

@Darius: Heretic! Burn him at the stake!!!
:D

p.s. had never heard of Delta Creams before. apparently it's a local delicacy and they don't have them here, despite ironically being owned by a U.S. company (Campbell's soup). Wikipedia says: "similar to an Oreo, but sweeter and not so much cocoa".
Maybe it's not actually heresy to eat them improperly unless you're doing it with a real Oreo, so we may have to acquit you on a technicality here.

Darius Drake (Guest), July 14th, 2019, 6:33 pm

@ Blitz: Nah, that's not eating a Pizza Wrong. Eating a Pizza Wrong would be to rip off the crusts, use them to seperate the toppings from the rest of it, and leave the base and half the cheese/sauce.

@ Ed8: And here I thought that the US had Arnott's Biscuit Products. You do have Shapes (dry snack biscuits with heavy flavoring on one side) and Jatz (a dry, circular, lightly salted biscuit designed to either be eaten with dip, or have things like small meats & cheese put onto it as a snack), right? I'm fairly certain I remember seeing Pizza Shapes the one time I was in the US for a few weeks several years ago.

Though, honestly, if you don't I should have expected that. I know that you don't have Tim Tams over there, but I thought that it was, in part, due to the awful chocolate that's your default (Hershey's, the gritty garbage that has refused to update, or even minorly modify, it's recipe in over 100 years).

Ed8, July 14th, 2019, 9:23 pm

@Darius - It's possible they may be sold in some parts of the U.S., just not near me.

I did find a New York Times article from 2017 that proclaimed "Tim Tams now going to be sold in U.S.!" so maybe I have to drive to New York to find them?

Hmmmm...let's assign Blitz the task of checking on that next time he goes to a Con in Boston or DC.... :)

Seros Senric (Guest), July 15th, 2019, 2:38 am

When I read the comment about Delta Creams, I couldn't think of what they were either.

Of course, I have actually eaten them before... Just usually only as mixed biscuits because I don't actually like them. (I don't like Oreos either, now that I think about it)

Tim Tams however are still great, despite that recipe change a few years ago making them taste not as good.

Shapes are good. And I love that they had to change their recipes back when they tried to change it to something that didn't taste as good.
(Though sometimes I feel like I'm the only person I know that prefers Pizza Shapes to Barbeque)

Darius Drake (Guest), July 15th, 2019, 5:02 am

@ Seros Senric: And now you're not alone, because I like Pizza Shapes and actively dislike BBQ Shapes.

And everyone loves Tim Tams. They're decent chocolate biscuits with decent chocolate cream dipped in decent chocolate. The few people who DON'T like them either have a problem with the flavour of chocolate or are worried about something not related to the taste of the biscuit.

If we're only talking preference, I don't really care for any ultraprocessed-snack-cake-candy-cracker stuffs. Way too sweet, too salty, or both. Mostly both. I don't think I've actually had an Oreo in decades, for example. My preference more resembles Layla's. (Meat with a side helping of extra meat) Though it used to resemble Stilez's (Everything, with a side of Everything else). Back when I also had Stilez's metabolism. :(
