*GASP* Can it be? Is it really true? Did... DID I REALLY GET A FULLY FINISHED UPDATE UP AT MIDNIGHT? ...not, not quite. I didn't finish typing this until a few minutes later. But still, after MONTHS of barely getting the pages up before the day was over, we FINALLY have a page going up up right at the start of the day! It's wonderful! It's glorious! And to celebrate... I'm gonna go lay down, 'cos I'm getting sick. Funny thing: half the reason this page actually got up in a timely manner is because I was supposed to go get a flu shot yesterday, and I wanted to make sure I had as much of today's page already finished beforehand just in case I actually got sick from it... and I never even got the shot, because I started to come down with a cold all on my own. Figures, right?

Well, anyway, we got a timely update out of it, and the new TWC Voting Incentive... um, isn't up yet. I mean, it's done, but I got so excited about how much progress I was making on the regular page that I forgot to post the Incentive first. I should have everything swapped out by the time most of you read this, though.

@ Comic: Well, that explains why he didn't know. But, let's be honest, Ichabod doesn't seem to be the type to answer phone calls, particularly when focusing on something.

@ Incentive: As I somehow posted a comment on the previous page about the same time that this page went up, I am likely the one person who misses out on being able to see the incentive right after reading this page. Go timing!

A Timely Update! It's a First-Day-Of-Christmas Miracle!

Blitzkrieg1701, October 4th, 2019, 8:36 am

DD: I think there actually is a page somewhere in the past where we see Ichabod's screen flashing some absurd Missed Calls number. God help me if I can remember what the page number is, though.

Ed8: We joke about starting the holidays early, but I literally am already starting to work on Christmas comics for real (though in my case, it's just so I can spend December doing something other than sitting at my desk for once)

Ed8, October 4th, 2019, 8:32 pm

Blitz is actually starting to work on the Christmas comics 2 months early this time instead of waiting until the last minute - It's ANOTHER First-Day-Of-Christmas Miracle! ;)

(Does that mean this is the year that we're getting that 600-panel adaptation of Dickens "A Christmas Carol" that you really know you want to do?)

Ed8, October 4th, 2019, 8:35 pm

@incentive- whenever I see a long series of doors like that I expect the theme music to the 1960s "Get Smart" TV show to be playing in the background. And the last one should be a phone booth. Does anyone under 30 still remember phone booths? Or do they still have them somewhere?

(It's entirely possible that their lab was built over what used to be a top secret spy headquarters in whatever long-dead civilization once occupied their planet)

Darius Drake (Guest), October 4th, 2019, 9:47 pm

On starting the holidays early, I actually saw Xmas Biscuits and Santa Kinder Surprise at the convenience store yesterday.

Blitzkrieg1701, October 4th, 2019, 10:09 pm

DD: I'm both frustrated and comforted to know I'm not the only one getting hit too early with this stuff.

Ed8: Well now I've got the Get Smart theme stuck in my head, thanks :)

Also, the only way that Christmas Carol series will ever get done is if I literally spend an entire year working on it. Even if I really did start right now (which I actually might, if I really get in the holiday spirit) there's still no chance of it getting done before NEXT Christmas.

@Darius - We do not have such things here at all, as our Politicians bravely protect us from such terrifying dangers which might threaten our nation, see "United States" section of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinder_Surprise

(Meanwhile, Tabitha probably gives Bridget chocolates with actual weapons inside. Because a kid can never have too many flamethrowers.)

Blitzkrieg1701, October 5th, 2019, 3:08 am

I remain convinced that the US banned Kinder Surprise because we were all too terrified of THIS thing:

Darius Drake (Guest), October 5th, 2019, 9:41 am

I remain convinced that some people in the US Consumer Safety Commission looked at them and went "Yeah, I can see a teenager trying to eat this whole, toy and all".

Ed8, October 5th, 2019, 5:12 pm

La Faulx even thinks that thing is too creepy
@Blitz & @Darius - Those are both 100% entirely valid reasons. I guess I owe our politicians an apology, they got this one right.

But now I am going to have nightmares about that...thing. This is revenge for putting the Get Smart theme music in your head, isn't it?

Darius Drake (Guest), October 5th, 2019, 6:14 pm

@ Ed8: Over 90% of the world sells Kinder Surprise without anyone suffocating on them. The exceptions are extremely rare. I've heard of someone choking on the capsule containing the toy exactly once, over a decade ago. It's just that the US has a reputation for having teenagers and adults who will be willing to swallow anything for a bet or bragging rights.

...unless you were talking about Blitz's link. In that case, do you have a problem with Humpty Dumpty? Because that's supposed to be Humpty Dumpty.

Blitzkrieg1701, October 6th, 2019, 12:00 pm

I have a problem with Humpty Dumpty when the animatronics portraying him look like THAT.

Also, props on the La Faulx reference up there! The dozen people in the world who know what that's about tip their hats.

Ed8, October 8th, 2019, 10:39 pm

La Faulx is unforgettable. Even if we try. :)
@Darius: "supposed to be" is the important term in that statement. It may have been supposed to be the whimsical Humpty from a children's story, but they missed their mark by a huge margin and ended up getting the version of Humptey that came from a Horror movie remake of Wonderland. I kept expecting it to open up a candy egg, pull out a little squirming human being, and pop it into it's gaping maw. Mind you, as a kid, I never really got the "whimsy" of wonderland, I always thought it was a pretty creepy, scary story of a lost girl trapped in a world of insane people with a creepy grinning cat, some lady who wanted to decapitate everyone, and so forth. So if even the original creeped me out already, this is 1000x worse.

Regarding the Kinder Surprise, Wikipedia says 10 deaths out of 30 billion eggs sold, so one per 3 billion. Of course, just like all the other useless statistics we are bombarded with, no context is given is to whether this is more or less than is usual for any widely sold small toy, so we have no way of knowing if the danger is exaggerated.

Ed8, October 8th, 2019, 11:30 pm

Also, how do you pronounce "La Faulx" anyway? I fear I've been pronouncing it wrong for the past decade.
